Have you heard a song lyric by Willie Nelson ”forgiving you is easy, but forgetting seems to take the longest time”?. Yes, there’s a time when we had a bad moment when someone hurting us. A relationship, any kind of relationship with someone, nor with colleagues, spouse or friends, not always going smooth and sweet as it could be. Misunderstanding, ego, lack of understanding or anything can causes a break on it.
When we faced those difficult time, we’re not only felt sad, angry or even felt betrayed, but sometime we’re also got a heavy burden our shoulder to forgive who had been hurt us. We’re even may think that “I’ll never forgive you” at that moment. Never. Particularly when we felt what they have done to usare intolerance. Forgiving is doesn’t easy as it seem, so does forgetting. For me, It just like need a sense of big gut to put our pride aside and be humble or generous to who have been hurt us.
But, there’s a nice quote from Martin Lather about it. Its kind of awaken me. He says that a forgiveness are the pure happiness. Forgiving it self can be tough thing and need a really big effort. About this Gandhi said that forgiveness is belong to the strong, not the weak. Mmm..mm..quite interesting, right..:)
Another perspective such psychology of forgiving saws forgiveness a self -realization for not being resentful, grudge, or aversion to those who have been hurt us. Forgiving has great effects on mental health. Its not only makes us more calm and peaceful, but also feel less of anger and soothe us. negative emotions such sad, hatred, resentment and grudge, become released. A psychologist says that forgiving releases burden of grudge and healing of hurt and sadness. The results is physically healthier for us. Someone with sense of forgiveness have a healthier cardiovascular organ much than who doesn’t. It because the burden that was carried just like being lifted. So its have good implication for our mental health.
To be honest, sometime we actually felt that someone is undeserved to get our forgiveness or any kind of our generosity after what they have done to us. Or sometime, we’re may able to forgiving but not to forgetting it. At my point of view, forgiveness need a big effort and willingness for us, but forgetting need a time.
